Baby Gifts
When confronted with what to buy for a new baby it can be incredibly daunting, especially daunting especially for someone who hasn’t got children. Do you go practical, beautiful, vouchers and if I buy something will they like my taste. If I buy on the internet shall I get it gift wrapped and delivered straight to them or is that too impersonal.
The simple facts are that most new parents are really busy after having a baby, they won’t notice the details. The important thing is that you have remembered them and the gift should not involve too much work for them, for example if you buy them a gift voucher and it’s can’t be used on the internet or they don’t have a computer. They will be forced to go to the shop in order to use it, which can put pressure on new parents.
The other question is when deciding what to buy for a new baby is do you go for clothing, baby blankets, keepsakes, something for the mum or do you just ask what they could like. If the baby has an older brother or sister it is important not to miss them out.
I think the way to choose what to buy for a new baby is to think about the parents. Do they already have a child, if so they will already have most of the practical stuff? If the baby is the same sex as the older child they may well have all the clothes they need. If it’s their first baby then they will probably make more use of clothing and baby blankets.
Think carefully about whether they are a keepsake sort of person you buy one. When you have a baby your house suddenly gets filled with huge quantities of equipment and it is not always practical to have lots of keepsakes to store as well.
You could also consider not what to buy for a new baby, but what to buy for a new mum or family. Something like lovely bubble bath or chocolates for the mum, or a picnic rug or a year’s national trust membership.
