Buggy Blankets

Most people assume that a buggy blanket is a basic square or rectangle blanket that anyone can use for anything.  In a buggy you simply lay it over the child and tuck them in. Of course that is quite acceptable and it is what most people do.  But wouldn’t it be great if there was something that did the job but so much better?

Over the last 10 years or more, retailers have realised that a standard buggy blanket doesn’t do the job as well as it could.  The problems are that the blanket can easily fall off while you are walking along or even get caught in the wheels. Either way the blanket ends up getting run over by the buggy and can be lost if you don’t notice or is cover in mud and dirt and needs washing.  Apart from anything else, it means that if you want to avoid this you have to constantly check it and make sure it is tucked in properly.

The other problem is that because it can slide off it means that it doesn’t always keep the child warm, if they are moving about their shoulders or arms can come out and get chilly and of course because it only goes over their front, their legs and feet get cold at the back if they are dangling down.

So this has inspired a number of companies to come up with a solution.  Most of these buggy blankets have a way of fitting into the seat first and allowing the straps to come through.  This means the child is sitting on the blanket and so it can never slip down and be run over.  The other benefit is that it covers their feet and legs right the way round so they can’t get cold.  Some of them incorporate a hood which means the child is totally warm all over.

An added bonus that people find when they using these specifically designed buggy blankets is that they protect the buggy or pushchair from spills and can be easily removed and washed, which isn’t their primary purpose but really helps.  When you are a mother anything that can save time and hassle is a real positive.

Although these products are still not widely used, they are being to become more popular as there are more on the market and some of the larger retailers are selling them.  They are quite often part of the travel system package or they are an add-on accessory that people buy at the same time.  The problem with purchasing in this way is that you are restricted to that particular product and it may be very expensive. It’s worth shopping about and seeing what kind of buggy blanket would suit you before you buy a buggy so you can make the best decision.  So don’t just settle for a normal blanket, get out there and see what other choices are around, it could really help!
