Covers for Car Seats
The day that I needed to wash my baby’s car seat for the first time was the day I realised that car seat covers were the way forward. I had never realised that they were so complicated to remove and put back on.
To remove the cover I had to pull the corners off the edges then undo the straps from the metal buckles around the back and then thread all the straps through the holes. As if that wasn’t bad enough, once I had washed and dried it, getting it back on was even worse. You thread the straps through the cover and then through the seat, but you have to work out which way they go into the buckles. You have to actually complete the task before you can be sure you have got them the right way round and they are not twisted. There were several occasions where I had got it all back together and then found that I had got the straps twisted so I had start all over again.
This lead me to the conclusion that if you can have car seat covers that protect the seat from spills this has got to save time, hassle and stress. If you find a cover that completely protects the car seat and acts as another cover, you may find you have the same problems because you may have to detach the straps to get it on.
The idea solution is to find a car seat cover that has Velcro or something that detaches so you can get the straps through without any hassle. If you can find a cover that acts as a blanket for the child, it has a dual purpose of course it may not protect their seat quite as well but you may only need to wipe the bits that it doesn’t cover. I found a great travel wrap that has holes in it to let the straps though, you can easily get it on and off the seat and wash and dry it really easily.
If you have older children you may want to consider car seat covers for the actual car seats, which can protect against any spills and mess, but they are also great for protecting against wear. You can get covers that are standard and fit most seats or you can have them made to order. Of course this is not a good idea if you regularly change your car because ideally you would want to move them to the new car.
Car seat covers and boot covers are a brilliant idea if you have dogs or go on lots of muddy walks, you can just wash them if they get muddy and keep you car really clean. When you sell your car it means that it is in much better condition and easier to sell, you may even be able to get more money for it!
