As aunts, uncles, grannies and grandfathers or even close friends it’s always difficult to know what to buy as a gift for a new baby.  You often become very out of touch with the latest trends and fashions, if your own children are grown up and I think most people want to know that their gift is useful or something that is really wanted.

That is why I always think getting essentials for a new baby is a good idea because that way at least you know your gift will be useful.  It is also great for the parents as it saves them having to spend more money at an already expensive time and they have one thing less to buy.

The best way to go about this is to speak to the parents ahead of the birth and let them know you want to buy something they need and ask them if the have a list of essentials for a new baby so you can pick something off the list.  You might be wise to ask the parents if they have got a specific item in mind and if they have seen a good place to buy it.  They may want a specific brand or colour that matches other things they are buying; it may be that it comes as part of a set.

Companies like Amazon have wish lists which you can send to a friend, all the person has to do is pay for the item, and it is delivered to the person who owns the wish list, that way you know you are buying the right thing.

Another way to contribute to essentials for a new baby is to buy gift vouchers.  This way the parents can buy anything they want but with a contribution of money from friends and family.  If you buy gift vouchers from somewhere like a department store or something online.  It should mean they can use it easily for most things and if you don’t live locally they will still be able to spend it at a branch or online wherever they live.  If you don’t want to spend a lot of money but still want to buy something that would be considered as essentials for a new baby, a voucher doesn’t have to be for a huge amount, but it still helps with the overall cost of an expensive item.

I know that buying presents in this way can seem quit boring and predictable, but it really is a great way to contribute to the expense of a new baby and essentials for a new baby can be quite considerable.  Parents will really appreciate the help and that way they avoid getting huge quantities of things they don’t need or want and also duplicates of the same items.  It would be so disappointing to find that your gift is unwanted or unused at such a special time.
