Travel Blankets in Winter

Travel Blankets aren’t something that you normally think of as needing but they can be really useful for all ages.  Keeping a blanket in the car is something I have always done just in case the car got stuck in cold weather and we needed it to keep warm.  I also found it useful when the kids wanted to sleep in the car on a long journey, or even if they just want to snuggle up on a long journey or if we are travelling at night.  I have always had loads of blankets around the house and you can buy them so cheaply that I have always had spares around that I could use.

A great invention for babies that has come on to the market in the last few years is a travel blanket that fits in their car seat.  It’s always there as protection for the seat from spills and mess but it also means you can wrap them up when it is a bit chilly or before the car has warmed up, it’s also great if your car seat comes out and fits on the pram so you have it when you are outside.  Slightly older children can use a normal travel blanket, but I have also seen a little bag you can get that has a little pillow and a blanket in it.  The pillow has buttons on it and the blanket attaches to it so it won’t fall off.  They can easily pack this away and take it on any journey.

The elderly sometimes need extra warmth on a journey, particularly in the cold weather.  It is also worth thinking about travelling by other means.  If you are flying you might find that you are waiting at the airport if there are delays, people have been known to spend several nights at airports in extreme situations and in that situation you would be really glad of a travel blanket.  On a long flight you will probably want to sleep at some point or long train journeys you might want to sleep or need extra warmth. You may find that the temperature is very warm or very cool as they often don’t control the temperature very well on trains.

As I mentioned before travel blankets can be a life saver if you are on a long car journey and particularly if you get stuck in the snow or breakdown.  There have been many occasions when people have had to spend the night on motorways in the car and of course you can’t leave the engine running all night or you will run out of fuel.  So you can find travel blankets a really important piece of equipment.  Motoring organisations always tell you that if you are embarking on a long journey in winter you should take food, drink and a shovel and coats and blankets just in case you get stuck.
